ssalc siht tuoba glob (backerds)

This class was an overall free for all. Frantically panicking about blogs papers and quizes when you never know if youll end up having to do them. Im sure many would agree that the constant quizes were enough to keep you on your toes. However, without them we would have not been motivated enough to read the stories.

  1. I dont mean to disagree...but I disagree. I dont think its necessarily the grade(quizzes) altogether that makes a person read, because anyone can go onto sparknotes or wikipedia or whatever and find certain answers; I think its that people actually found stories interesting after they went past the fact that they may be a little hard to read at first glance. I think its language that sometimes hinders us from reading certain literature, because we're scared we may not necessarily understand everything that is being said, but today we have modern translations and we can "cheat" in other ways to understand what exactly we're to be reading. Now I'm not disagreeing that the quizzes didn't motivate most to read a little more in depth but I think everyone at some point has to grow out of the "let me just read this to pass" blah blah blah...eventually something will interest them a little deeper. [I hope at least.]

  2. I have to agree with Kristin's disagreement. I can't say that I didn't panic a little when we had a quiz, but I would have read the stories even if I had known beforehand that there wouldn't be one. After taking several English classes in the past, I think that what makes them interesting and really helps students to learn is the discussions about the material. While you could sit and listen to a discussion without having read the material, you certainly wouldn't be learning as much as if you had read and could contribute your thoughts. And the assignments we had in class were also more meaningful after reading the material. The quizzes were important, and some of them were definitely difficult, but there was a lot more to this class.
